Con tan solo 20 años, Martina Figueroa ha logrado lo que muchos jóvenes sueñan: liderar un proyecto que no solo impacta a su comunidad local, sino también a personas de distintas partes del mundo. Martina, originaria de Chile, ha dedicado gran parte de su vida a los voluntariados, donde descubrió su pasión por la educación y las ciencias. Fue en estos espacios donde se dio cuenta de las enormes brechas educativas que existen en América Latina, particularmente en las áreas STEM (ciencia, tecnología, ingeniería y matemáticas). Así nació Academia Into Space, un proyecto educativo que busca abrir las puertas del conocimiento científico a todas las personas, sin importar su contexto social, económico o geográfico.

La Academia Into Space tiene como misión no solo ofrecer cursos gratuitos en astronomía, física espacial, biología espacial y otras ciencias afines, sino también ser un espacio que fomente el crecimiento personal y académico. "En los voluntariados conocí a personas que, a pesar de haber crecido con todo en contra, se convirtieron en líderes del cambio. Eso me inspiró a querer aportar desde la ciencia", afirma Martina. Con su academia, Martina pretende romper las barreras educativas que muchos jóvenes enfrentan, proporcionando recursos y oportunidades que, de otro modo, estarían fuera de su alcance.

Pero la pasión de Martina por el cambio social no surgió de la noche a la mañana. El momento decisivo en su vida fue cuando ingresó como voluntaria a la ONG AMUJI. "Allí descubrí que cada persona tiene un mensaje valioso que ofrecer, y comprendí la importancia de contribuir al desarrollo colectivo", recuerda. Desde ese momento, su objetivo ha sido claro: trabajar por una sociedad más equitativa en la que todos tengan las mismas oportunidades de crecer y desarrollarse.

La Historia de Josefa: El Impacto Personal del Proyecto

Uno de los momentos más significativos en la trayectoria de la Academia Into Space ocurrió con Josefa, una niña de 7 años que vive en una región rural del sur de Chile. Josefa siempre soñó con ser científica, pero su educación, tradicional y limitada, no le ofrecía muchas oportunidades para desarrollar ese sueño. Martina conectó con la madre de Josefa, quien compartía los valores de la academia, y se comprometió a ayudarla. Junto a su equipo, crearon un programa personalizado de inglés con un enfoque en astronomía, que ofrecieron de manera gratuita.

El cambio en Josefa fue notable. De ser una niña tímida, pasó a convertirse en una pequeña líder, segura de sí misma y con el deseo de dejar huella en el mundo. Este caso no solo reafirmó la importancia del trabajo de Martina, sino que también mostró el impacto real y tangible que puede tener la educación inclusiva. "Ver el crecimiento de Josefa ha sido una de las mayores recompensas de todo este trabajo. Es un recordatorio constante del poder que tenemos para cambiar vidas a través del conocimiento", reflexiona Martina.

Un Proyecto con Alcance Global

El impacto de la Academia Into Space no se ha limitado a Chile. A día de hoy, Martina y su equipo han llegado a más de mil estudiantes de cuatro continentes diferentes, conectando a jóvenes de diversas culturas y contextos a través de la ciencia. Además, cuentan con el apoyo de más de 100 voluntarios, lo que ha permitido que el proyecto crezca de manera constante y se expanda a nivel global. "Nuestro mayor logro hasta la fecha ha sido crear una comunidad internacional que no solo accede a conocimientos científicos, sino que también se siente inspirada a seguir aprendiendo y explorando", comenta Martina con orgullo.

La academia ofrece una variedad de programas educativos en línea, lo que permite que personas de todas las edades y ubicaciones accedan a una educación científica de alta calidad. Los cursos son diseñados para diferentes niveles de conocimiento y, en muchos casos, se personalizan para adaptarse a las necesidades de los estudiantes. "Queremos que nuestros estudiantes no solo aprendan ciencia, sino que se sientan empoderados para convertirse en los científicos y exploradores del futuro", afirma Martina.

Planes Futuros: Llevando la Ciencia a las Comunidades Rurales

El éxito de la Academia Into Space ha llevado a Martina a planear su próxima gran meta: llevar la astronomía y las ciencias a las escuelas rurales de Chile. Después de finalizar el programa "Viaje al Universo", Martina y su equipo comenzarán actividades presenciales en estas comunidades, con el objetivo de llevar oportunidades educativas a lugares que tradicionalmente han tenido poco acceso a ellas. "Nuestro objetivo es democratizar el conocimiento. Queremos que cada niño y joven, sin importar dónde viva, pueda tener acceso a las mismas oportunidades educativas que los estudiantes de las grandes ciudades", explica.

Además, Martina planea iniciar grupos de investigación que involucren a sus estudiantes en proyectos científicos, dándoles la oportunidad de aplicar lo que han aprendido y participar activamente en el desarrollo de nuevas ideas y descubrimientos. La Academia Into Space también está desarrollando una marca propia, con el objetivo de generar ingresos que permitan financiar materiales, crear más oportunidades, y ofrecer experiencias inmersivas que enriquezcan las clases y programas.

El Motor del Cambio: Un Equipo Comprometido

Martina atribuye gran parte del éxito de la Academia Into Space al equipo que ha formado a lo largo de los años. "Lo que realmente me mantiene motivada es el equipo con el que trabajo. Somos como una familia, unidos por un mismo propósito", comenta. Este sentido de comunidad y colaboración ha sido clave para el crecimiento del proyecto, ya que cada miembro aporta ideas y propuestas que se entrelazan para crear un impacto real en la sociedad.

"Ver cómo nuestro trabajo conjunto no solo está generando un cambio positivo, sino que también está influyendo en el futuro de muchas personas, es lo que me impulsa a seguir adelante", asegura Martina. Para ella, el desafío diario de superar obstáculos y encontrar soluciones a los problemas que enfrentan es una fuente constante de inspiración. "Saber que nuestras acciones tienen el potencial de cambiar vidas y contribuir a un futuro mejor es lo que me da fuerzas para no detenerme", concluye.

Josefa had always dreamed of becoming a scientist, but her traditional and limited education didn't offer her many opportunities to pursue that dream. Martina connected with Josefa's mother, who shared the values of the academy, and committed to helping her. Along with her team, they created a personalized English program with a focus on astronomy, which they offered for free.

The change in Josefa was remarkable. She transformed from a shy child into a young leader, confident in herself and determined to leave her mark on the world. The success of Into Space Academy has led Martina to plan her next big goal: bringing astronomy and science to rural schools in Chile. After completing the "Journey to the Universe" program, Martina and her team will begin in-person activities in these communities, with the goal of providing educational opportunities to areas that have traditionally had little access to them. "Our goal is to democratize knowledge. We want every child and young person, no matter where they live, to have access to the same educational opportunities as students in big cities," she explains.

In addition, Martina plans to start research groups that will involve her students in scientific projects, giving them the opportunity to apply what they have learned and actively participate in developing new ideas and discoveries. Into Space Academy is also developing its own brand, with the goal of generating revenue to fund materials, create more opportunities, and offer immersive experiences that enrich the classes and programs.
