Youth’s Source of Light for Educational Rights and Creative Change

The voices of Afghan girls, —filled with passion for learning—are too often silenced, neglected for their educational rights, their struggles immense. With these injustices in mind, I continue to ponder the impact it has brought to youth mentally and physically. How can I gain access to extensive knowledge as a girl? Will hope forever escape us? Determined for change to arise, Abdul Khaliq Towhidi, an 18-year-old Afghan leader in Daykundi, has made a significant contribution by embracing confidence, breaking the chains of educational limitations, and showcasing unity amongst the Afghan community.

His Empowering Project and His Source of Inspiration in Social Work

    Abdul’s project, known as “Education as a Right” (EaaRP), focuses on providing free educational opportunities for marginalized students from underrepresented communities, especially with the emphasis on Afghan girls and women. With the current statistics delivered  in Afghanistan, approximately half of the population — girls and women — are unable to attend school beyond grade six, and eventually being denied their fundamental human rights and values. In Abdul’s eyes, this heartbreaking calamity sparked a fire within him to stand against inequality and gender discrimination. As a result, his mission was to ensure that Afghan girls could gain access to education without encountering gender-based barriers. 

   With Abdul’s role in the community, he feels a deep responsibility towards his sisters, cousins, friends and everyone around him who has been denied the chance to continue their studies because of Taliban’s restrictive policies, which led him in finding the Creative Youth for Change (CYC) organization plus the launch of the Education as a Right Project, to break down educational boundaries, enabling all individuals to study, work and live with equal opportunities. 

A Decisive Moment That Came Across His Life — The Focus on Social Projects

   Since 2021, he has been driven by a passion to create a positive change in his community and the world. He has actively advocated for human rights, gender equality, peace, education, environmental protection and justice. These values drive his commitment to social engagement, bringing him renewed motivation to launch his own projects and contribute to a brighter, more just future.

The Origin of His Idea of His Project And The Pathway for Embarking In His Project 

  Mentioned by Abdul, Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan in August 2021 brought about widespread upheaval, exacerbating gender inequality, discrimination, and injustice. The ban on girls attending schools denied millions their right to education, which was presented as the turning point. In July 2022, he founded the Creative Youth for Change (CYC), a youth-led initiative committed to promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and fighting for democracy, peace, equality and education. Through the organisation, he launched the Education as a Right project, initially providing free online classes to over 300 students, with an influential image to advocate for those denied education, peace, equality and democracy. 

  With his genuine compassion and acknowledgement with such issues, he envisions a world where every individual, regardless of gender or background, can live with dignity and hope through CYC and its projects. He also carries a drive to play a part in building this dream. 

The Impact Observed On His Personal Development and Community 

   With Abdul as the founder of the Creative Youth for Change (CYC) organization and the Education as a Right Project (EaaRP), he truly believes that these has transformed me into a global visionary and a dedicated change-maker. He is deeply committed to advocating for the rights of others, fighting for gender equality, ensuring equity in education, and promoting peace and sustainability to the Afghan community.

  In his community, the project has had a profound significance to the crisis that girls in Afghanistan were facing. A substantial number of girls who had lost their educational opportunities are now able to pursue their studies in a safer and supportive learning atmosphere. Furthermore, they are also forming connections internationally and exploring other exhilarating prospects in their learning odyssey. 

Innovative Activities and Programs Offered through His Project 

 Looking at the Education as a Right Project, they have demonstrated a sense of success with their works such as providing free online educational services for students, not only locally but also in over 10 countries. 

 During their first program cycle they registered over 300 students in their language learning classes and engaged with over 50 volunteers representing 20 countries. With this being stated, this has definitely created such invaluable opportunities for girls from Afghanistan and other underrepresented communities to participate in interactive experiences. 

Abdul’s Current Greatest Achievement with The Project 

 Abdul has mentioned that his greatest achievement to date with the Education as a Right Project is the direct, life-changing impact it has had on the lives of the girls and women they serve, especially in the Afghan community. Witnessing the tremendous transformation in these young women’s lives, from having their education neglected in the society to now seizing countless opportunities in free online classes, pursuing their studies, and connecting with a global network of peers, definitely offered him a sense of immense pride. 

 Apart from the numbers, recorded with 300+ students enrolled, the volunteers from 20 countries, the language learning academy, the most significant achievement is the hope they were able to supply. They have empowered these versatile students to reclaim their right to education, fostering a sense of agency and propose in the midst of adversity. To recognize their resilience, their desire for knowledge, and their determination to build a better future is truly remarkable and is the driving force behind this project. Knowing that they are making a tangible contribution in their lives is the achievement they value the most. 

Future Plans in Regards to the Project and Initiatives for Expansion To More Communities 

 As mentioned by Abdul, he is determined to extend the reach and impact of his project to even more communities. Through the project developed, he plans to launch their first online school within the CYC movement, in order to offer a vital opportunity for deprived students to continue their education from gender inequality and discrimination. 

 In addition to that, he is actively seeking more volunteers from diverse backgrounds and collaborates with stakeholders to widen their language learning academy, further working to recruit more students to benefit from their free classes and courses.

 Under the Education as a Right Project, he is also committed to create a large emphasis on gender equality movements and humanitarian activities, both in Afghanistan and beyond. His goal is to make a difference by shaping a more equitable and sustainable future.

His Motivation and Inspiration to Continue Social Work and Wishes towards the Project 

  Being a young Afghan leader, he has stated that he will champion equality, education, equity, democracy and peace. His commitment to these values means that he will never cease his efforts.

Su Proyecto de Empoderamiento y Fuente de Inspiración en el Trabajo Social

En julio de 2022, fundó Creative Youth for Change (CYC), una iniciativa liderada por jóvenes comprometida con la promoción de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS) y la lucha por la democracia, la paz, la igualdad y la educación. A través de esta organización, lanzó el proyecto Education as a Right, ofreciendo inicialmente clases en línea gratuitas a más de 300 estudiantes, con una imagen influyente que aboga por quienes han sido privados de educación, paz, igualdad y democracia.

El proyecto Education as a Right ha demostrado un gran éxito al ofrecer servicios educativos en línea gratuitos a estudiantes no solo localmente, sino también en más de 10 países.

Durante su primer ciclo de programa, registraron a más de 300 estudiantes en sus clases de aprendizaje de idiomas y colaboraron con más de 50 voluntarios de 20 países. Esto ha creado oportunidades invaluables para que niñas afganas y otras comunidades subrepresentadas participen en experiencias educativas interactivas.

El Mayor Logro de Abdul con el Proyecto

Abdul ha mencionado que su mayor logro hasta ahora con el proyecto Education as a Right es el impacto directo y transformador que ha tenido en la vida de las niñas y mujeres a las que sirven, especialmente en la comunidad afgana. Ser testigo de la transformación en la vida de estas jóvenes —de haber sido excluidas de la educación a aprovechar múltiples oportunidades en clases en línea gratuitas, continuar sus estudios y conectarse con una red global de compañeros— le ha brindado un profundo orgullo.

Más allá de los números —con más de 300 estudiantes inscritos, voluntarios de 20 países, y una academia de idiomas— el mayor logro es la esperanza que han podido ofrecer. Han empoderado a estas estudiantes para reclamar su derecho a la educación, fomentando un sentido de propósito y agencia en medio de la adversidad. Reconocer su resiliencia, su deseo de aprender y su determinación de construir un mejor futuro es verdaderamente extraordinario, y es la fuerza que impulsa este proyecto. Saber que están haciendo una contribución tangible en sus vidas es el logro que más valoran.

Planes Futuros para el Proyecto e Iniciativas de Expansión

Abdul ha expresado que está decidido a ampliar el alcance e impacto de su proyecto a más comunidades. A través de lo desarrollado, planea lanzar la primera escuela en línea dentro del movimiento CYC, con el fin de brindar una oportunidad vital a estudiantes desfavorecidos que han sido víctimas de la desigualdad y discriminación de género.

Además, está buscando activamente más voluntarios de diversos orígenes y colaborando con aliados para expandir su academia de idiomas, trabajando también en reclutar más estudiantes que puedan beneficiarse de sus clases y cursos gratuitos.

Bajo el marco del proyecto Education as a Right, también está comprometido a poner un gran énfasis en los movimientos por la igualdad de género y las actividades humanitarias, tanto en Afganistán como fuera de sus fronteras. Su objetivo es marcar una diferencia al construir un futuro más equitativo y sostenible.

Su Motivación e Inspiración para Continuar su Trabajo Social y Deseos hacia el Proyecto

Como joven líder afgano, ha declarado que continuará defendiendo la igualdad, la educación, la equidad, la democracia y la paz. Su compromiso con estos valores significa que nunca cesará en sus esfuerzos.

A pesar de enfrentar obstáculos significativos y dificultades inevitables —como haber sido encarcelado por el Talibán— ha mantenido su firme dedicación a seguir con su labor social y lograr transformaciones visibles en el mundo.
